Presents fundamental information about multiple therapeutic intervention strategies to help mental health nurses assist their clients and themselves.

Many therapies and therapeutic endeavours have been developed over the years to help people with mental health concerns and/or serious mental illnesses.

Whether you are already working as a mental health nurses or yet to begin, it’s essential you understand the therapies commonly used. Knowledge of these therapeutic interventions will help you work alongside your clients, and can even contribute to better outcomes for them.

This module deals explicitly with the myriad psychotherapies, along with behaviour therapy, group therapy and family therapy. Although studying this unit won’t render you an expert in all therapies, it will arm you with specific skills and models for your practice, helping you feel more confident in the long term.

In addition, you will consider the roles of interviewing, case management and electroconvulsive therapy in contemporary mental health nursing. You will also learn relaxation and assertiveness skills, reflecting on your own stress levels and acknowledging that nurses are more therapeutic in a mental health context when they have a good understanding of themselves.

Completing this online module accumulates one hour of CPD for nurses.
