Explores this major public health issue, detailing risk factors, prevention and management strategies and models of cardiac rehabilitation.

In Australia and New Zealand, as in most western nations, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is a major public health problem.

Although mortality from CHD has declined over the past two decades, nurses are now facing the challenge of managing chronic heart diseases in the long term, with a shift towards managing disability due to CHD and enhancing quality of life in addition to longevity.

This module will help you understand modifiable biomedical and behavioural risk factors for coronary heart disease as well as secondary prevention strategies to address these risk factors.

You will learn about the issues that impact quality of life for people with CHD and identify management strategies to reduce symptoms.

Studying this unit will bring you up to date with the current evidence relating to the relationship of various psychological disorders and coronary heart disease, as well as with models of cardiac rehabilitation programs and community supports available to those with coronary heart disease.

Completing this online module accumulates one hour of CPD for nurses.
